Centre In The Square Announces More Great Shows For Kids In The Studio Theatre

Centre In The Square announces four new shows for children coming to The Studio on Saturdays starting this fall: The ToyBox, Manxmouse, Gruffalo’s Child, and Kaput.

“We’ve been very encouraged by the community’s enthusiastic response to our children’s programming in The Studio, which was a new initiative this season.  As a result, we’re bringing even more great family-friendly shows to The Studio this fall,” said Centre In The Square CEO Sandra Bender.

Bender saw an opportunity to complement the “Big Event” family shows on The Centre’s mainstage with creative, interactive kid-friendly productions in the informal Studio space on Saturday mornings when families are looking for fun accessible things to do together.  All the shows were either sold-out or very close to capacity. In fact, in the case of last weekend’s Casey Carle’s Bubblemania! a third show was added to meet the demand, and it sold out as well.

Based on the children’s novel by Paul Gallico, Manxmouse is a play about a brave little creature on a special journey.  But can he survive fearsome foxes, terrified elephants and cats big and small to reach his destination?  The Manxmouse is one-of-a-kind, with bright blue fur, huge rabbit ears and a distinct lack of tail. But Manxmouse doesn’t mind being different.  He knows that destiny awaits him and so he sets out on an exciting adventure. Along the way he meets tigers, hawks and dastardly pet-shop owners, but there’s someone he dreads and desires to meet more than anyone else…the Manx Cat. Recommended for ages 6+.

Saturday, November 28, 2014 at 1 PM and 3:30 PM
Based on the award-winning children’s book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, this magical, musical adaption created by Tall Stories Theatre Company has delighted young audiences around the world.  One wild and windy night, the Gruffalo’s child ignores her father’s warning and ventures out into the snow. After all, the Big Bad Mouse doesn’t really exist…does he? Songs, laughs and scary fun for children aged 4 and up.

Kaput is a hilariously funny mix of chaos, comedy and acrobatics for all ages.  A young silent movie projectionist is eager to show a film to the audience but his efforts are thwarted by a glitch in his temperamental projector.  This award-winning production is a tribute to the slapstick comedy of the silent movie era, created and performed by renowned Australian circus performer Tom Flanagan.

Admission to The ToyBox is free and requires pre-registration through the Box Office (Registration details will be announced at a later date).  Tickets to Manxmouse, Gruffalo’s Child, and Kaput may be purchased online at www.centreinthesquare.com, by calling 519-578-1570 or 1-800-265-8977, or in person at the Centre In The Square Box Office (101 Queen Street North).  Tickets for each show are $10 (adult), $5 (child), or $25 (family of 5) plus applicable fees.
