Centre In The Square Ushers In Spring With Comedy, Family Shows And Lots Of Great Music!
The Centre In The Square ushers in spring with magical family shows, side-splitting comedy and performances by some of the finest musical talent from around the world.
Beginning April 2 and 3 Jeans ‘n Classics performs One Vision – The Music of Queen an amazing musical evening that pays homage to Queen and the band’s charismatic and theatrical lead vocalist Freddie Mercury, featuring a 25-member choir and the Jeans ‘n Classics Rock Symphony.
All three performances of Casey Carle’s amazing one-man show BubbleMania! on April 5 are sold out! Combining spontaneous comedy, jazz music and brilliant bubbling, this family-friendly event features fantastic fog-filled bubble sculptures, blobs of helium-filled foam, and bubble ping-pong!
The Just For Laughs Road Show returns on April 8 with four comedians who will have audiences laughing all night. Hosted by Mike MacDonald, this year’s show features Robert Kelly, Cristela Alonzo and Arthur Simeon.
On April 24 Classic Albums Live performs The Beatles: Abbey Road including legendary songs such as “Come Together”, “Something”, “Octopus’s Garden” and “Here Comes The Sun” followed by many more hits from The Beatles’ amazing song catalogue. Says Craig Martin, founder of Classic Albums Live, “This is the one album in the Beatles catalogue that people keep coming back for. From start to finish it’s an absolutely perfect record and we’re going to treat it with the ultimate respect.”
Described as “Pulse-pounding, electric, and immensely entertaining” by Entertainment Weekly and “Simply Stunning!” by Rolling Stone, Montreal’s phenomenal nouveau cirque troupe Les 7 Doigts de la Main (The Seven Fingers of the Hand) make their Centre debut on April 28 with their new show Traces. Fusing the traditions of circus with the upbeat urban energy of street performance, each of the young, ultra-talented performers puts it all on the line, using everything from music, dance, and illustration to skateboarding, basketball and high-risk acrobatics in an effort to surprise, awe and delight the audience at every turn.
Broadway fans are in for a special treat on April 29 when Australia’s acclaimed The Ten Tenors perform a wonderful collection of Broadway’s greatest hits. The Ten Tenors have sold over 3.5 million concert tickets performing across seven continents. They bring together rock and classical music to create a sound that is uniquely theirs.
Inspired by the great ladies of song like Ella Fitzgerald and Edith Piaf, Jill Barber has truly become Canada’s sweetheart and an international singing star. She performs OnStage April 30, with selections from her award-winning albums Chances, Mischievous Moon, and her most recent Chansons, an album of romantic French songs.
Pekka is charming tale for young children about a tiny turtle awaiting her bedtime story and the adventure that ensues. Produced by Le Théatre des Petites Âmes (Small Souls), in their Centre debut, this theatre company dedicated to object and mask theatre productions has created a wonderful 30-minute show appealing to children between the ages of 2 and 5. Pekka runs for two performances on May 3.
Jim Belushi and the Chicago Board of Comedy bring this improvised comedy sketch show featuring Larry Joe Campbell and a host of other performers on May 8.
The high-energy nine-piece swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy celebrates more than 20 years on the music scene. On May 9 they take things to the next level with their latest album Rattle Them Bones.
SOLD OUT! On May 12 Centre In The Square proudly presents multi-award winning singer-songwriter John Legend’s 2014 North American tour. An Evening with John Legend: The All of Me Tour features John Legend in an intimate and acoustic setting, highlighted by guitar/vocal accompaniment and a string quartet.
With a fusion of raucous roots and blues-rock, join George Thorogood and the Destroyers on May 13 as they celebrate 40 years in the business performing finger-snapping, foot-tapping, raw rock ‘n roll including their biggest singles “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer”, “Bad to the Bone”, “Move It On Over”, “Born To Be Bad”, “Get A Haircut” and “American Made”.
Jeans ‘n Classics returns on May 21 and 22 with a new production Woodstock 2 – The No Shows, featuring music by some of the artists who did not perform at Woodstock in ’69. Among those artists who declined the invitation: The Doors, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Eric Clapton…
Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Michael Bolton makes his Centre debut on June 5 performing a selection of songs from his recent release “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough: A tribute to Hitsville USA” with his band and the Jeans ‘n Classics Rock Symphony conducted by Jeff Christmas.
