From Tony Bennett To Alice Cooper, The Centre Offers Top Talents To Tempt All Musical Tastes

In October, music lovers are in for a treat as Centre In The Square presents a wide range of musical offerings from reggae to jazz to hard rock by famed artists of our time.

Beloved by children around the world, The Wiggles bring their colourful song-and-dance show to The Centre on October 7.  The sold-out performance of “Ready, Steady, Wiggle” is sure to delight families with new music from the group’s latest CD and DVD Apples and Bananas.

October 9 brings six-time GRAMMY® award winner, Emmy winner, humanitarian, singer, songwriter and producer, Ziggy Marley to The Centre for his debut.  Marley has released twelve albums to critical acclaim and his latest release Fly Rasta has moments in alternative pop and acoustic rock while retaining the reggae roots and spiritual evocations of his past albums.

The popular Jeans ‘n Classics band returns under the musical direction of Peter Brennan, performing with the Jeans ‘n Classics Rock Symphony on October 15 and 16.  The first Electric Thursdays TM offering is Canada Rocks which celebrates the staggering worldwide impact of Canadian songwriters and vocalists on the international pop and rock scene over the past 50+ years. This new production offers up favourites including “These Eyes” by The Guess Who, Leonard Cohen’s “First We Take Manhattan”, and “After The Gold Rush” by Neil Young.

Today, twenty-five years after the formation of Blue Rodeo, Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor are widely respected as one of Canada’s best songwriting teams. On October 17, Jim Cuddy returns to The Centre to perform hits from his critically acclaimed solo albums.  His voice, always a voluptuous instrument, has never sounded better and Cuddy proves once again that his songwriting ranks with the best Canada has to offer.

On October 21, the critically acclaimed dancers of Ailey II will captivate audiences with their strength and agility.  Under the artistic direction of Troy Powell, the Ailey spirit shines as these artists perform an exhilarating and diverse repertory that includes Alvin Ailey’s timeless classics and thrilling new works by today’s outstanding emerging choreographers.

A legend whose music spans over six decades, Tony Bennett performs at The Centre on October 30. His long list of achievements includes seventeen Grammy Awards and his signature tunes, such as “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” and “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”, form part of the fabric of American music culture.  With worldwide record sales in the millions, and dozens of platinum and gold albums to his credit, Tony Bennett continues to captivate audiences with his celebrated voice and charming stage presence.

On Halloween, Alice Cooper will deliver the dark and horror-themed theatrics that he’s best known for in his sold-out performance of hard rock designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, Cooper tours his stage show around the globe six months each year, bringing his own brand of rock psychodrama to fans both old and new.
