May News Release: Warm Up For Spring With Some Hot Shows

Say goodbye to winter and hello to amazing performances at The Centre throughout May. Magician Bill Blagg brings his interactive magic performance Trickin’ to Centre In The Square May 9! Minds will be read, ordinary objects will “come to life” and audience volunteers will experience magic up close as they assist live on stage. Called “simply amazing” by the Chicago Tribune, Blagg’s sold-out performance is a great family event.

Jeans ‘n Classics returns to The Centre May 13 and May 14 to recapture the mood and feel of the Disco “daze” with Disco Ball, starring Jeans ‘n Classics and their very own Jeans ‘n Classics Rock Symphony! Performing disco classics including “Stayin’ Alive”, “Dancing Queen” and “You’re Gonna Miss My Lovin’”, Jeans ‘n Classics features some of the finest vocalists and rock musicians in Canada. Under the musical direction of Peter Brennan, the world class Jeans ‘n Classics band and full Jeans ‘n Classics Rock Symphony faithfully interpret the music of legendary rock and pop albums and artists, with their own special and signature flair.

Joel Plaskett with The Emergency performs a sold-out OnStage performance May 20 during his Canada-wide The Park Avenue Sobriety Test Tour. With countless awards to his credit, thousands of tour dates, and numerous recording and producing projects under his belt, Rock veteran Plaskett remains one of the most innovative and prolific artists on the scene today. The Park Avenue Sobriety Test offers up a wide mix of styles from the multi-award winning artist and includes contributions from Dave Marsh, Chris Pennell, Tim Brennan, Ian McGettigan, JP Cormier, Mo Kenney and more. Mo Kenny will be opening for Joel Plaskett during this OnStage performance.

Ten-time Grammy winner and legendary vocal innovator Bobby McFerrin visits The Centre May 29 for Bobby McFerrin Meets Canada: Kitchener. Even before he became famous for his unlikely a cappella earworm of a hit song, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, Bobby McFerrin always had a mission to bring joy to audiences with spontaneous improvisation, humour, and surprise. The “Bobby Meets …” series, based on his love of meeting new collaborators all over the world and letting the audience witness the process of mutual discovery, features local musicians and dancers.
