mixed(er) by Unwrap Theatre

mixed(er) is a comedic coming-of-adulthood story about Sam, a biracial woman who returns to her parents’ home in Kitchener-Waterloo after completing her undergrad.

What she expects to be a low-key homecoming quickly spirals into chaos when she discovers her parents are throwing her a surprise birthday party, complete with her White friends and her only Black friend. As the night unfolds, family wounds surface, cultural tensions flare, and a jerk chicken casserole becomes the final straw in Sam’s fractured sense of identity.

Between bedroom fights, hair tangles, a secret unconscious boyfriend, and a Mennonite bakery heist, Sam is forced to confront what it really means to belong, to her Black Caribbean heritage, her White mother, her friends, her city, and herself.

Sharp, funny, and heartfelt, mixed(er) is a story about identity, family, friendship, and the messy, hilarious journey of figuring out where you fit.
